Tips for Comparing Electricity Rates in Belton
Make sure that when you are evaluating electricity rates for different plans you are looking at pricing for the usage level commensurate with the size of your home and your normal electricity usage.
Standard usage levels for plan pricing in Texas are:
500 kWh – Representing and average apartment
1000 kWh – Representing a small home
2000 kWh – Representing a larger home
The pricing scheme of many electricity plans can result in a much different average electricity rate for these 3 levels. If, for example, you live in an apartment and you are comparing rates based on the 2000 kWh usage rates, you may find yourself choosing a much more expensive electricity plan than you realize.
Fortunately for you, we have the tools to ensure you are doing a proper comparison. When looking at rates on our electricity rate comparison tool, make sure you have the usage level (found at the top of the plans display) is set properly.

Understanding the Electricity Plan EFL
Every electricity plan in Texas is sold with a standard discloser document called an EFL (Electricity Facts Label). This is the document that lists the electricity rates for the plan. Advertised average electricity rates are calculated by formulas that define the cost of each plan based on how much power is used. These formulas are made of various flat rates, pass-through rates, and electricity charges.
The EFL will contain average electricity rates for homes that use 500 kWhs, 1000 Kwhs, and 2000 kWhs. Even though you aren’t likely to use exactly these amounts of electricity, the fees and costs listed in the EFL should give you some idea of what you could expect to pay if your level of electricity usage falls somewhere between those benchmark usage levels. After all, almost no one uses exactly 1000 kWhs in a month.
Other pieces of information electricity providers must include in the EFL are cancellation fees and length of contract term. The EFL format is designed to help consumers understand exactly what goes in to the price they will pay for the plan.
Cancellation Fees on Belton Electricity Plans
Besides month-to-month no contract plans, most residential electric plan contracts come with a cancellation fee. A typical amount for a 12 month plan is $150. Although, this amount will vary by provider and by plan.
If you are moving, you can usually get the cancellation fee waived. Although, some providers may want you to give a certain amount of notice and provide a forwarding address for the final bill.
Now, commercial electricity plans can have some steep cancellation fees, but they depend on which commercial electricity provider your plan is with.
