The unincorporated city of Highlands, Texas resides in Harris County. Last checked it had a population of about 7,500 total, and the median age for citizens was close to 36 years old. On the map, Highlands is in Southeastern Texas, about 8 miles from Baytown and 20 miles from Houston.

Historically, the city got its name for the geographical fact that the land in Highlands, Texas was higher than the surrounding area. On the eastern side of the San Jacinto river, Highlands has a higher elevation. In 1908, the Beaumont, Sour Lake and Western Railway made the city a stop along the track and growth followed. Some notable people from the area include: T.J. Ford, who used to play Basketball professionally for the Bucks, Raptors, Pacers, and Spurs during his career. In addition, Robert Francois, a Green Bay Packers Linebacker, can call Highlands home.
