Why do Texas electric companies all charge different rates for electricity?
Sometimes it seems like there are electric companies in every corner of the state, but why is it that they all charge different rates? The average Texas household spends about 24 percent more on electricity than the national average. The difference in rates can be due to many factors, including higher usage rates for homes with air conditioning, hot water heaters, and electric stoves. Using less power can help you save money on your electric bill. Electric companies charge different rates for different products to target different consumer segments. They also change electricity rates often in an attempt to compete with each other.
