Karnes Electric Cooperative is a nonprofit electricity company, distributing power to 21,500 customers. They supply power to rural customers in 12 counties located between San Antonio and Corpus Christi. Like most electric co-ops in Texas, Karnes doesn’t generate the electricity they deliver. Instead, they purchase it wholesale from the electric grid, then resell it with a markup.
Karnes Electric Co-op has very reasonable fees when compared to other electric co-ops. For example, their membership fee is only $5, whereas many co-ops charge $50 and up to initiate new electricity service. As long as you stay up to date and current on paying your bills, you won’t see any extra fees on your monthly bills.
Customers of Karnes Electric have access to the SmartHub payment system. SmartHub is a convenient way to monitor and manage your electricity usage from anywhere. You can view account information, analyze power patterns in real time with our interactive graphs as well make payments without ever having leave home. The app really is useful — when it works. SmartHub often has downtimes, and customers are unable to connect to it to pay their bills.
Kearns Electric Cooperative has a Google Rating of 3.8 Stars, and is a member of Touchstone Energy Group.
