Named after one of the most well-known episodes of American history, Alamo is a city in Hidalgo County with a population of 19,700. It is ranked the 136th largest city in Texas, and on the map lies on the southeastern corner of the state, in the Rio Grande Valley next to the Mexico border. It is 8 miles from McAllen, 116 miles from Corpus Christi, and 227 miles from San Antonio–which of course is home to the Alamo Mission it was named after–where the Battle of Alamo was fought in 1836 and etched into the annals of history forever.

Unemployment is high within the community and the median household income is below the state average, but the cost of living is so cheap that the ratio between the discrepancy balances out well.
