A Short Guide to Elgin, Texas
The city of Elgin lies within two different counties: Bastrop and Travis. The population is about 9,700 according to recent estimates, and this puts the city as the 237th biggest city in the state of Texas. On the map it is in the central-eastern part of the state, next to Round Rock, Texas (21 miles) and Austin, Texas (23 miles).
According to sources about the city, it is named the “Sausage Capital of Texas,” as well as the “Brick Capital of the Southwest”. This last appellation has to do with the three brickyards that were in operation in the area. Currently, two of the three brickyards are still in operation. According to historical data, the city itself owes its establishment because the Colorado river flooded in 1869. This overflow made for alterations in the design of the nearby railroad, making a crucial junction near what would become Elgin. And the rest is history.
In addition to these interesting facts, some films and television shows were filmed in the Elgin area: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in 1974, Varsity Blues in 1999, The New Guy in 2002, and the television show Fear the Walking Dead was filmed in Elgin at one point.

Who Delivers Elgin Electricity?
You may not realize that the retail electric company you select doesn’t deliver the electricity to your home. Deregulation created separate roles for different types of companies within the Texas electricity market. This division of labor means that retail electricity providers don’t have the responsibility of delivering power.
The job of delivering power to your home belongs to companies called transmission and distribution utilities. These utilities have defined regions where they are responsible for maintaining the power lines and delivering the power to your home. If there is a power outage or a downed line, it is their crews that respond.
In the Elgin area, the TDU is ONCOR. They deliver electricity to every home and business in their region regardless of who the retail electricity provider is that sells the electricity to that address.
This makes it so much easier to select an electricity provider because it takes reliability of service out of the equation as a decision factor and allows consumers to focus purely on who has the cheapest electricity rats in Texas.
