The great thing about comparison shopping for electricity in Texas is that you will be receiving the exact same product even if you pay less.  Switching providers will not result in an interruption of service or any lessening of reliability.  Your regional Transmission Distribution Utility will deliver your electricity regardless of which provider you choose.

It really just comes down to a matter of how much you want to pay for your electricity.  Our recommendation is that you check in on the market often to make sure you aren’t over paying.

Who Delivers the Power to the Electricity Providers in Grand Prairie?

Your choice of electricity provider mainly effects two things: your electricity rate and the name on your light bill.  Nothing else changes about the way you get your electricity.  A lot of people don’t realize that retail electricity providers in Texas don’t deliver the power.

Entities called transmission and distribution utilities (TDUs) are tasked with delivering electricity within certain regions of Texas. Within the DFW area Oncor is the utility.  Within the Houston area the TDU is Centerpoint.

The TDUs not only deliver the power but they maintain the electricity lines for your area.  If your power goes out you will call Oncor, whatever TDU serves for your area.

This takes reliability of service out of the picture when you are selecting an electricity provider.  This allows you to focus on finding the cheapest rate.

Make Sure You Are Comparing the Electricity Rates Correctly

If there is one common mistake many people make when shopping for cheaper electricity in Grand Prairie, its not looking at the right rates.  For each plan you will see three different rates.  These represent the average electricity rate you should expect from the plan based on how much electricity you typically use.

If you live in a larger home, you should be looking at the 2000 kWh rates.  If you live in an apartment, you should be looking at the 500 kWh rates.  If your home falls somewhere in between, the 1000 kWh rate is probably closer to your usage level.

Some plans look very attractive at 2000 kWhs but turn out to be quite expensive if you use less electricity than that.

One example of how this may happen is with usage credits.  For example, a plan may offer a usage credit that kicks in once you use over 2000 kWhs in a billing cycle.  This would have the effect of lowering your average electricity rate by 1 cent per hour once your usage hits 2000.  But if you use less than that you will not get the benefit of the $20 bill credit.  This will make your average rate higher than someone who uses more than 2000 kWh.

Electricity Rate Savings Tips

There is one appliance that uses more power than anything else in most Grand Prairie, TX homes.  It’s the air conditioning system.  And in Grand Prairie it can see action almost every month of the year.

Not performing routine maintenance on your air conditioning system can cost you in higher bills.  Fortunately, keeping these electricity-eating appliances working at peak efficiency is pretty easy to do.

Regularly replacing your air filters is an easy task that a lot of homeowners simply forget about.  Theses filters are cheap and not hard to change.  Routinely replacing air filters can help make sure that the a/c unit works more efficiently and doesn’t have to work harder than necessary to push the air through the ducts.  Increasing the airflow makes the unit function on less energy over time and makes it much easier for the compressor to do its work.  Less energy consumption means less money spent on electric bills, and a cooler home, especially during the long hot Grand Prairie summers.

Is No Deposit Electricity In Grand Prairie a Real Thing?

If you meet certain conditions, you may be eligible to receive a waiver from having to pay a deposit to get your electricity turned on.  Not a lot of people meet these conditions, however.

The fasted and easiest way to get no deposit electricity is to sign up for a prepaid electricity plan.  These plans have become very popular in Grand Prairie because they don’t require a credit check and the cost to get started is minimal.   To get the lights on, you pay as little as $30 to prefund your account.  This money is used to pay for your first few days of electricity.  It’s a lot cheaper than paying several hundred dollars for a deposit and this money actually goes to pay for your electricity rather than setting with the electric company doing nothing for you.

Grand Prairie – We’re Not Only Talking About the Cheapest Electricity Plans

The city of Grand Prairie was founded in the mid 19th century, but wasn’t officially incorporated until 1909. It is a part of Dallas, Tarrant, and Ellis Counties, and by extension right next to Irving, Arlington, and Dallas on the map.

Because it is in between the aforementioned major cities (Arlington, Irving, Dallas, etc.) there are many things to do because of that proximity. One could go to the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Museum, see a Dallas Cowboys game in Arlington, go to Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington as well, in addition to the Verizon Theatre in Grandview and the Lone Star Park.

According to recent data, about a fourth of those who are over 25 years old in Grand Prairie have a Bachelor’s degree or higher (about 24%).  The majority of residents have a high school diploma. And also, a majority of students who get a post-secondary education, study Welding Technology and various forms of Nursing. The College of Technology-Grand Prairie is the most popular college, giving out more than 36% of degrees annually.

The employers in the city are: Grand Prairie Independent School District, Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, and Bell Helicopter-Textron.

A lot of people may be surprised to hear that it is that high.  Wind energy now makes up a substantial portion of Texas’ electricity output. A great number of plans that are sold in Grand Prairie feature 100% green energy.  You can use our green energy filter to narrow your search to only green energy plans.

Who Is the Cheapest Electricity Provider in Grand Prairie?

This is a trick question.  The cheapest electricity provider in Grand Prairie today will likely not be the cheapest next month.  Electricity rates in Texas are always shuffling, with companies continuously going in and out of the top spot.

In addition, the company that offers the lowest rate on a 12 month plan may not be the same company that offers the lowest rate on a 6 month plan.

There is also your usage level to consider.  Provider A may offer a plan with the lowest average electricity rate for a home that uses 500 kilowatt hours per month while Provider B offers the best rate for someone who uses closer to 2000 kilowatt hours per month.

Also, the company with the best rate in Grand Prairie may not have the best rate in other parts of the state.

That’s why it is so important to compare electricity rates in a format like ours where you can get all the information you need about the available providers and their rates in one place.
