Competition reduces prices in any market. The Texas energy market is the same way.
Electricity rates in Texas are dynamic. Providers are constantly jockeying for position at the top of our list of the cheapest rates. The plans they sell are mostly 12 month plans. But other contract lengths between 3 months and 36 months are also available.
Once your plan expires, your provider will offer to put you on a new 12 month plan; most likely at a different rate. The first thing you should do is compare this offer to other offers currently listed on Vault Electricity and be willing to switch providers if you find a lower rate.
If you decided not to sign up for a new plan with your current provider, they will gladly keep you on with month to month pricing. This would be a mistake. You will probably be paying more than you should.

Tips for Comparing Electricity Providers
When you compare Midlothian electricity rates for different energy plans, it is important that look at the rates for the usage level corresponding to the size of your home and your average electricity usage.
Standard usage levels for electricity plan pricing in Texas are:
500 kWh – Representing and average apartment
1000 kWh – Representing a small home
2000 kWh – Representing a larger home
The pricing algorithm of electricity plans can often result in a very different average electricity rate for these 3 levels. If, for example, you live in an apartment and you are comparing rates based on the 2000 kWh usage rates, you may find yourself choosing a plan that cost you much more that the listed electricity rate.
The good news is, we have the tools to ensure you are doing a proper comparison. When comparing rates on our website, make sure you have the usage level (found above the plans display) is set properly.
Midlothian, Texas – Beyond Electricity Plans
The 115th largest city in Texas, Midlothian resides within Ellis County with a population of about 25,300. On the map it is in the central-eastern part of the state next to the cities of Ovilla, Venus, Red Oak, Cedar Hill, Mansfield, and a little bit farther away are the major cities of Grand Prairie, Arlington, and Dallas. Because of the close proximity to all of these great cities, there is a lot to do within and surrounding the city. Some of these attractions are the following: The Ellis County Courthouse, Joe Pool Lake in nearby Cedar Hill, and the Windmill Hill Nature Preserve; In addition, because Houston is so close, driving and seeing the city is always a great way to spend the day (or weekend).
Historically, the area that would later become Midlothian was settled around the year 1849 or so. The Chicago, Texas, and Mexican Central railroad would eventually run through the town of Midlothian bringing with it the economic benefits of convenient transit.
Currently, the Midlothian economy is very stable. The biggest employers in the city are the Midlothian ISD, Gerdau Ameristeel, Target, Walmart, the city of Midlothian itself, Holcim, Navarro College, and TXI. The wages earned are pretty high at about $80,000 annually for the median household income. In addition, unemployment is low, which means that the job market is pretty stable overall.
Electricity Companies With No Deposit
It is not uncommon to be asked for a deposit based on the results of the credit check that most electric companies run during the enrollment process. There are certain state required exemptions in which you may qualified to be exempt from having to pay a deposit. See is more on that below.
If you don’t fall into one of the categories of exemption spelled out by the Texas PUC, you may still be able to get your power with no deposit necessary.
A prepaid electricity plan lets you pay as little as $30 up front to get started with your electricity. This is not a deposit. This money funds your account and begins paying for your electricity from day one. This means no credit check and often same day electricity. To read more about this, visit our no deposit electricity page or call 855-564-1181.
Deposit exemption categories:
– People in recent good standing with another electricity provider
– People over 65 who are not behind on payment with another electricity provider
– Victims of medical violence
– People who are medically indigent
If you meet into any of these conditions, you can provide proof to the electricity provider and receive electricity without a deposit.
