What Makes Up the Pasadena Electricity Rates?
Each electricity provider in Pasadena creates their own electricity plans and sets their own electricity rates. The rates for each plan are a result of all of the fees, credits and other adjustments the provider includes in the plan when they create it. Each electricity plan contains it’s own rate formula. The electricity rate you get once you begin receiving electricity through this plan will be different each month depending on how much electricity you use for the billing cycle. The even “fixed” electricity rates in Pasadena, Texas change from month to month.
Here is an example of how the electricity rate is created for one Pasadena electricity plan. If you review the plan’s documentation you will notice five elements that go into the final electricity bill.
- Energy Rate = 5.80 ¢ per kWh
- Base Charge = $7.95 per month
- TDU Electric Delivery Charge = $3.42 per month
- TDU Electric Delivery Charge = 3.697 ¢ per kWh
- Credit for Billing cycle for usage greater than 2000 kWh = $40 per month
The two flat fees ($7.95 per month and $3.42 per month) will always result in a higher average electricity rate when you use less electricity. That’s just how the math works. The $40 bill credit that occurs only after you hit 2000 kWhs makes your average electricity rate go down dramatically as soon as you hit that target in the billing period.
The resulting electricity rates are:
- 11.8¢/kWh @500 kWh
- 10.6¢/kWh @1000 kWh
- 8.1¢/kWh @2000 kWh
Interestingly, if you miss the 2000 kWh bill credit by just 1 kWh your average electricity rate will be very different. Your electric bill goes from $161 to $201 changing your electricity rate from 8.1¢/kWh to 10.1¢/kWh
