Deep East Texas Electric Cooperative is an electricity company with 40,000 customers spread out over 8 counties in East Texas. There customer base is made up of 90% residential electricity customers, and 10% commercial.
The DETEC electric company was established in 19358 to provide a cheaper and more reliable form of energy for its rural member patrons. As a private, non-profit business, the company does not pay federal income taxes, though it does pay property, county and school taxes.
Deep East Texas Electric Co-op is always looking for ways to offer their customers the best service possible. Offering net metering is one way that they do this, as it allows consumers who have private solar panels on their homes or businesses an opportunity of selling any unused electricity generated back into the grid at no cost.
